An almost nine-metre-high tower with a large viewing platform has been built on the grounds of the Cham Brickworks Museum. It reveals the historical processes involved in the production of bricks: from clay extraction to shaping and firing. An exhibition room and a kiln are integrated into the rammed earth building. The tower was developed by students from Studio Boltshauser at ETH Zurich and TU Munich. The project is based on technical innovation: the wall elements were prefabricated from rammed earth, and embedded tension rods allow for a nine-metre-high structure without a false ceiling. The oven tower contributes to the development of traditional clay construction and thus to a sustainable change in the construction industry.
