I used to cycle to the office – about 20km on country and city roads – and regularly came across animals killed by cars.
Car traffic causes a lot of collateral damage, which is unfortunately mostly invisible, such as air pollution, CO2 emissions and microplastics from tyre wear. The animal carcasses, however, are visible and I began to document these collateral deaths with my camera.
The sad ‘climax’ of this documentation were the bloodstains and chalk marks on the ground when I arrived at the scene shortly after a cyclist was run over by a truck.
